WHY USE KETTLEBELLS AS PROPS!!!!!

Joe (Carranza), Rick (Carranza) and I have had many conversations about the amount of fitness periodicals and emails using kettlebells as props.  Fitness Magazine, Shape Magazine, Oxygen are just a few of the magazines which have caught our attention.

In many cases they are not used in the rest of the article or any other way in what is written.  In other circumstances the kettlebell was not even held properly or SAFELY. 

Is it just that people don’t know how to use them properly, how versatile they are, or why they have been around for hundreds of years?!!

Wednesday August 7, 2013- New Kettlebell Instructor takes the Plunge

With Rick on a well deserved vacation, his regular classes are cancelled the week of August 6, 2013.

Nora Quinlan, who completed the kettlebell foundations certification on Sunday July 28, 2013, and I (Ellen Khazzam)  decided to train with anyone who came to the regular Wednesday class time of 10:30).  It ended up being the 2 of us training with Nora leading the workout.  With the consistent training Rick has provided, I was able to give Nora a few simple cues and she flowed right through the training.  It was a fun workout and proved what Rick always says during class- “I want to teach you the correct techniques so you are able to train with a kettlebell safely on your own and for the rest of your life”.

Cultivating Your Strength with Yoga

Today I took a Yoga Class at Lululemon in the Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington.  I went to support my cousin, Karen Khazzam Dubi who is a yoga instructor and Ayurvedic practitioner.

Throughout her practice with us she used the expression “cultivating your strength”.  It brought a new meaning to the phrase for me and helped me to have an experience with this yoga practice I have not had before.
